BLFD only started as a small home day care center in 1992. After years of reaching out to the community, we have been approved as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We help individuals become educationally proficient, economically productive, and socially responsible.

What We Do

No challenge is too big or too small for our team here at Building Live's Family Development. At present, we serve the underprivileged people in our birth towns in Charlotte, North Carolina and New York, New York. We are dedicated to:

  • Educating and Training People for Employment
  • Keeping Families Together
  • Keeping the Youth Away From Drugs
  • Providing Shelter and Additional Sustenance
  • Supporting Pregnant Teens and Teen Families
  • Teaching Individuals to Dream

To be fully prepared for life’s challenges, we also teach them how to acquire and cultivate their developmental assets, external assets (support and empowerment from other people), and internal assets (their positive values, commitment to learning, strong competencies, and healthy self-image).

Our Mission

It is our goal to motivate and empower families and individuals to stay strong together, remain focused on their ambition, maintain a positive attitude, and hold on to the hope of a good tomorrow.

We pledge that:

  1. We will be caring for adults and maintain our ongoing relationships with youths/families to offer support and guidance.
  2. We will provide structured activities in a nurturing place where the youth can learn and grow.
  3. We will give the youth a healthy start each day by providing adequate food both for the body and the mind so they can develop positive habits that they can carry into adulthood.
  4. We will give them effective education. This will help the youth to successfully transition from school to work.
  5. We will give individuals an opportunity to help others by participating in feeding programs and other community activities. Through this, they can build a strong self-esteem, boost their confidence, and heighten their responsibility for self-reliance.
